Brick PD: Home Depot Shoplifter Nabbed With Nearly $5,000 Worth Of Power Tools

A 28-year-old Whiting man was caught shoplifting more than $4,900 worth of power tools and other merchandise from a Route 70 Home Depot, Brick police said.

Michael Schecton loaded the merchandise into a shopping cart and then ran out when a security officer tried to stop him, they said.Detective Sgt. Lawrence Petrola and Detectives Jeff Person and Matt Firneno arrived and chased down Schecton.

A search of Schecton’s vehicle turned up a bag of gold jewelry believed stolen, police said.

They charged him with shoplifting and obstruction of justice and sent to Ocean County Jail to await a detention hearing.
